Deus mostra-Se, no > Antigo Testamento, como Aquele que criou o mundo por amor e permanece fiel ao ser humano, mesmo que este, pelo pecado, O renegue. 'Parágrafos do CIC [54-64, 70-72]' Deus deixa-Se experimentar na história. Com Noé faz uma Aliança para salvar todos os seres vivos. Chama Abraão para fazer dele o << pai de um grande número de nações >> (Gn 17,5) e nele abençoar << todas as nações da Terra >> (Gn 12,3). O povo de Israel, descendente de Abraão, torna-se Sua especial propriedade. A Moisés apresenta-Se nominalmente: O Seu nome misterioso, muitas vezes pronunciado como > "Iahweh", significa << Eu sou Aquele que sou >> (Ex 3, 14). Ele liberta Israel da escravidão do Egito, faz uma Aliança no Sinai e, através de Moisés, entrega-lhe a Lei. Repetidas vezes, Deus envia profetas ao Seu povo, para o chamar à conversão e à renovação da Aliança. Os profetas anunciam que Deus fará uma nova e eterna Aliança, que realizará uma radical renovação e uma definitiva redenção. Esta Aliança está aberta a todo a humanidade.
